Proper Lighting By Police Chief Joseph Polisar Its that time of the year again where we “fall back “ an hour during daylight savings. It will be getting dark earlier making proper lighting an essential crime prevention tool both at work and at home. I would like to remind you that proper lighting both inside and outside your business or home is essential to protect your staff, clients and loved ones during the coming months.br>
Lighting should be wide spread in parking areas to allow clear access to and from your property. This also allows you a clear view of who and what is coming your way. Be sure that there are no “hidden” areas that might allow suspects cover from view. Many burglaries and robberies can be avoided if all aspects of your property are visible to the general public, employees or neighbors who can report any suspicious activity as it occurs. Entries and exits must be well lit to prevent injury from tips and falls. Your address should be visible and well lit at all times. If your customer does not feel safe they will go elsewhere to do their business.

Lighting inside should be even and sufficient to allow easy viewing of sales floors, work cubicles and living spaces. During evening business hours proper lighting inside the business allows easy viewing and can deter shoplifting.

Lets all be watchful of each other and promote safety in all aspect of our busy lives.
