Orange County District Attorney Bad Check Restitution Program

During these uncertain economic times if you should also experience an increase in bad checks, District Attorney Tony Rackauckas offers the Bad Check Restitution Program to help merchants with losses due to bad checks. Assistance is provided free of charge.

The primary goal of the program is to obtain restitution and secondly, to hold check writers more accountable for their actions without creating an added burden to the criminal justice system. Check offenders must pay restitution and attend a mandatory educational class at their own expense. Offenders that fail to cooperate are reviewed for prosecution. All of this is accomplished without cost to Orange County taxpayers.
