Recently, several businesses in our city have been broken into. Most times of occurrence were during the night/ early morning. Windows were smashed and merchandise and cash from the registers was taken.
In order to help prevent YOUR business from becoming a victim of crime, please review and practice the following Safety Tips:
• Report any suspicious persons or activities that you observe at, or near, your business to the Garden Grove Police Department. Our 24-hour business number is (714) 741-5704.
• Take all the cash, including loose change, out of the cash register at the end of the day and leave the tray open to indicate that there is nothing valuable in the cash register. Also, remove from sight any tip jars or donation receptacles.
• Provide adequate lighting inside and outside of your business. Exterior lighting should be set to come on at dusk and turn off only when it becomes light again the next day.
• Do not clutter your front display windows with merchandise or product advertisements, as these will prevent officer from being able to easily and quickly see inside.
• If you have an alarm, make sure that you maintain it on a regular basis.
• If you have a video camera installed in your business, make sure that you maintain it on a regular basis to ensure that it is working properly. This also includes checking/ changing the tape frequently. In addition, place the camera at the angle that provides the most visibility to the area you are targeting - the register.
• Do not place anything of value where it would be easily visible from the outside of your business. This would include computers, laptops, cell phones and any other type of electronic equipment, personal items or valuable merchandise.
